Reflexology treats the whole person and not a problem in isolation
A reflex is an involuntary response to a stimulus; it is a reflex-action of an organ, muscle or gland reached by the current initiated by a stimulus.
When we stimulate the feet through reflexology we activate the flow of energy to every part of the body and bump start the body systems to enable them to function effectively. We stimulate the reflex points of the feet and it is the body itself that does the healing. Therefore it is the aim of Reflexology to activate the body to heal itself.
However other aims are to correct the three negative factors in the dis-ease process that prevent the healing process from taking place, for example:-
Congestion: responsible for swelling
Inflammation: Infection of the tissues i.e. sinusitis
Tension: This lowers the efficiency of the immune system.
When working on the feet the nervous system is stimulated and this sends messages to the internal organs but also the skin.
Reflexology works to stabilize the systems, energizing the physical, emotional and mental aspects of the body. It is achieved by reducing tension and aiding relaxation helping the body to benefit from an optimum state of health.
Reflexology is a powerful antidote to stress. Deep relaxation during the treatment aids to balances the nervous system and helps the body recover from stress.
During the treatment, the client will become relaxed and has a sense of well being and this has a very calming effect on the body and mind. A relaxed body can heal itself and balance its systems.
